surrup. 101

  • Quite literally anything you'd like to sweeten up! We are liquid so we'll blend right in (har-har) with hot or iced drinks. To just name a few:

Coffee, tea, cocktails, mocktails, seltzers, sodas...and put us on pancakes, waffles, popcorn, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit, you name it! Check out our recipe page for inspo.

  • Glad you asked! We feel strongly that 2:1 syrup is superior to 1:1 for a few reasons:

    • Higher sugar concentration = much longer shelf life
    • You’ll get a better mouthfeel in your cocktails and mocktails
    • 2:1 curtails unwanted drink dilution with more sweetness
    • Bigger bang for your buck. You’ll use less surrup. in each drink than traditional simple syrups to get your desired sweetness
  • It’s simply (heh!) 2 parts sugar for 1 part water. Most homemade recipes and simple syrup products found in stores are 1:1.

  • Surprisingly, no because of…science. Liquid sweetness is measured on something called the brix scale.

A 2:1 ratio has a brix of 66% meaning it’s about 33% sweeter than a traditional 1:1 mixture. So, it’s actually only 1.5x as sweet and not 2x as you might think. Fascinating stuff!

  • If you add ½ oz of traditional 1:1 simple syrup to a drink, try adding just ⅓ oz of surrup. There will be no discernible difference in taste, but you will notice a smoother, velvety mouthfeel. Math is not mathing? Refer to the table below.

ingredients

  • We use only pure cane sugar and flavor with whole spices and organic flavor concentrates. No artificial dyes and we use a plant-based, natural preservative.

  • Because many of our surrups are flavored with whole ingredients, batches may have natural variations in color and shade. This, however, does not affect the flavor or taste!

  • Citric acid is one of the most common food preservatives in the world. We use it so that you can enjoy your bottle for longer. The citric acid in surrup. is plant-based (citric fruits) and completely free of additives and dyes.

  • Unopened surrups. are made to be shelf stable for up to 12 months. Once opened, you and the bottle should chiiillllll because surrups. will last for months when kept in the fridge.

Keep an eye on it, and if there’s something funky going on in the bottle (like a weird blob), it’s time to let it go.

  • We're embarrassed. We use many fresh, whole ingredients to flavor our surrups. Although we strain all the solids out, sometimes lil' bits get left behind.

  • surrup is said like the correct way to pronounce syrup....sir·up (as one word, no break). If you're saying seer·up, well, don't. 🙃
